By car with driver in Bali: Ulun Danu Bratan

Once our journey concludes, we still have a few spare moments before our rendezvous with Tomi. We utilize this breather to browse through our inbox, within the comfortable confines of the Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant & Villas, and catch up on the global happenings from the daily paper.
In what feels like an instance, the additional half hour whizzes past and we find ourselves buckled up in our vehicle, heading towards our next destination, the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan. It should be mentioned that this sacred site once served as the central temple of the Menwi kingdom in Bali.
We arrive and hand over the necessary payments for entrance and vehicle stationing, a sum total of 12000 rupiah. With that taken care of, we set forth on our adventure, completely recharged and ready to explore...

During our visit to Bali, we had the opportunity to experience an extraordinary ceremony at Ulun Danu Bratan. This sacred place holds great importance for the local community, and witnessing the ceremony firsthand was truly a remarkable experience.

After this enriching visit, our driver, Tomi, suggested a trip to the Alas Kedaton forest in Bali. However, he informed us that it is quite touristy, which doesn't align with our preference for off-the-beaten-path destinations. Intrigued, we decided to skip it and instead head straight to the breathtaking Git Git Waterfall.

As we ventured towards the waterfall, we made a spontaneous stop on the side of the road. Tomi pointed out a group of macaques that gather in these spots, as they are frequently fed by curious tourists. It was fascinating to observe these playful creatures in their natural habitat.

The drive to the Git Git Waterfall took us a little over an hour. Upon arrival, we found ourselves in a picturesque car park, ready to embark on an adventure surrounded by the stunning beauty of nature.

There we paid the 15,000 rupiah entrance fee plus parking and set off on the little more than one kilometre walk to the waterfalls.
The road is full of warungs and souvenir shops. It is quite clear that this is a very touristy place, although we can't complain at all... in all the time we are there, we only come across a couple of other tourist couples.
From a distance, we can make out a small part of the waterfall and from afar, it impresses us.

As we immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of Ulun Danu Bratan, we find ourselves captivated by the two serene lakes that flank the landscape. These pristine bodies of water, nestled amidst the lush surroundings, add an element of tranquility and harmony to the scene.

During our chauffeur-driven tour in Bali, our journey pauses briefly to savor a well-deserved break. Glancing at the clock, we realize it's almost 3 o'clock in the afternoon. With our appetites whetted, we eagerly request Tomi, our knowledgeable driver, to take us to a delightful lunch spot.

Following our routine, we find ourselves at a bustling buffet restaurant, a popular choice among tourists. However, despite its touristy ambiance, the food is exceptionally delicious, surpassing our expectations. Surrounded by laughter and good conversation, we engage in a friendly spar with Tomi over the bill, eventually deciding to share desserts and coffee with him, creating an unexpected bond.

Before bidding farewell to an eventful day, we seize the opportunity to savor a refreshing taste of coconut water. Although anticipated with enthusiasm, we find ourselves surprised by our taste buds' dissenting opinion, resulting in shared laughter between us and Tomi.

We want to mingle a bit with the local population and this is a unique opportunity.

As we travel through Indonesia, time seems to slip away from us, always leaving us wanting more. Our guide, Tomi, has prepared some local delicacies for us to try on our journey to Jatilowih's magnificent rice fields. Along the way, we stumble upon a bustling village filled with people, and Tomi suspects a lively cockfight is taking place.

Intrigued, we decide to venture into the village, soon finding ourselves immersed in a crowd of hundreds of enthusiastic onlookers. Though cockfighting may not align with our personal interests, we can't help but be captivated by the electrifying atmosphere surrounding this spectacle.

As we learn from Tomi about the cultural significance of cockfighting, we gain a deeper appreciation for the traditions and customs of Bali. The fusion of excitement and curiosity propels us on our adventure, eager to uncover more of the island's unique wonders.

Cockfighting. A chauffeur-driven car tour in BaliAfter a long while, we finally decide it's time to leave.
We drive a good stretch of road until we reach the Jatilowih rice fields, which means "really wonderful".
We pay an entrance fee of 30,000 rupees, which we discuss with Tomi for quite some time. He is of the opinion that the country is overpricing and taking advantage of tourists.
We tell him that although it is true, if (as he has explained to us on other occasions) this money is really invested in the care of the heritage, we consider it to be money very well invested.
We stopped in a couple of areas and were very disappointed. It is not what we expected to see. The harvest is over and it's all quite yellowish now...and it doesn't look like it does when it's that bright green colour that we usually see on the postcards.

During our visit to Bali, we decided to explore the stunning Jatilowih rice fields. Although we couldn't spend as much time there as we wanted, we were eager to experience the breathtaking sunset at Tanah Lot. Before heading towards that grand finale, we asked our guide, Tomi, to take us to Pura Luhur Batukau, a spiritual temple nestled amidst the hills of Gunung Batukau.

Known as the most revered temple in Bali, Pura Luhur Batukau offers an unparalleled sense of tranquility. It is a significant destination along our unforgettable trip to Indonesia, allowing visitors an uninterrupted and awe-inspiring experience. After preparing ourselves by wearing sarongs and reserving a donation of 20,000 rupiah for the temple's upkeep, we were met with a sight that surpassed all expectations - one of the most captivating temples we have ever encountered.

Enabled by Tomi's guidance and expertise, we immersed ourselves in the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Bali. Each destination added a new layer to our unforgettable journey, showcasing the diverse beauty of this enchanting island.

Racing against time, we swiftly embark on our next adventure, absorbing the beauty of the surroundings through the car window. Before departing, we make sure to return our sarongs and contribute a generous donation at the entrance, supporting the preservation of this magnificent cultural gem.

As we drive away, our fleeting glances back at Pura Luhur Batukau evoke a sense of longing, hopeful that perhaps one day we will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in its captivating atmosphere once again.

Discover the stunning beauty of Bali with a private chauffeur-driven car tour to Ulun Danu Bratan.

While visiting Pura Tanah Lot, we encountered heavy traffic as Tomi, our knowledgeable guide, had forewarned. The journey that should have taken just minutes stretched into a seemingly endless 10-minute drive for every 100 meters. As we glanced at the ticking clock, Tomi's earlier advice became all too real - today was not the day for leisurely detours. Our destination awaited; the famous sunset at Tanah Lot.

With a sense of excitement and a touch of humor, we exchanged playful banter with Tomi, who demonstrated his linguistic skills speaking a little Catalan, a language he had been practicing with us.

Sunset in Tanah Lot

We are here, hardly moving until Tomi comes running to pick us up.
He tells us that we are in the right place to see the sunset at Tanah Lot, which is where he wanted to show us this sunset.
He assures us that normally there are a lot of clouds and it is not so clear, that we have been lucky.
We don't doubt it, but we would have liked to arrive with more time to enjoy it more calmly.
We are there until 7 o'clock in the evening. Today has been a very long day...

As we return to the car park, our guide Tomi informs us that the journey back to Ubud from Tanah Lot will take approximately two hours. It seems almost unbelievable considering the incredible experiences we've had so far. The drive back is a mix of moments between sleep and wakefulness, filled with both lively conversations and serene silences.

Reflecting on our adventure, we realize that this is yet another journey that leaves us in awe. It's a testament to the incredible beauty and richness of the places we visit, reaffirming our belief that every trip we undertake is truly remarkable.

Overflowing with anticipation, we look forward to each and every journey we undertake, savouring each moment, regardless of our destination. In this particular instance, our trek leads us to Ubud, one of Bali's most charming regions.
In Ubud, we request our driver Tomi to drop us at the Pizza Bagus restaurant, a place lauded for its delicious pizzas. We put in our orders for a couple of pizzas, and just perhaps because we've been so utterly exhausted, the service seems to drag on rather slowly.
Feeling a little disappointed by our meal, we attribute the lacklustre pizzas perhaps to our weary bodies' impossible demand for comfort rather than culinary perfection.
Post our meal, we contact the Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant & Villas for a pick-up service. Just like the previous day, there seems to barely be a moment to recuperate, we're so utterly worn out.
More experiences await us tomorrow...
